Immunity Challenge One - The Frenzy

Welcome to your first Immunity challenge of Survivor Webcam 5.0 : The Battle of the Seasons. This is your first chance to covet the all-important very critical Immunity that will guarantee your safety in this game. Every week you will compete for this very important position and every week somebody will be ousted from this game.

End up in the lowest-scoring bracket of this challenge, your tribe alone will be visiting Tribal Council Wednesday where somone in that Tribe will become the first person voted out of Survivor Webcam All-Stars. With looming fears of being the first person evicted, I'm sure all of you will work to do your best win in this challenge.

So before we get to the bulk of the challenge, I ask all of you - what does it take to be successful in this game? What should be maintained in order to advance each week?

Well...

#1. You need to be unified as a tribe.  Not being organized is the single biggest factor in self-destruction.

#2. You need to know what the challenge is asking for. Every season so far, I have seen at least one tribe make a silly mistake, costing their tribe a large number of points. Read everything carefully, don't assume a quick skim is enough to get by because it's not. The instructions in these challenges are specific so you need to follow them precisely.

#3. Work efficient, but not so efficient that you miss things. Sure, it's nice to be fast in these non-timed challenges but is it worth rushing through a challenge, at the risk of missing a key element? (#2 and #3 go hand-in-hand)

And finally...

#4. Remember that everything you do is worth something. Even if you think adding one more item or doing one extra thing may not make a difference, 9 times out of 10 it does (refer to all the challenges in the past, where a tribe beat another by very, very, very small margin)

This is the only advice I'm offering you this season. Take my word for it -  challenges in this game are going to be specific and they are going to require teamwork and effort. Without either of the two, you're tribe will fail. There's no question about that. I wish you all the very best in this game, so with that said, here is tonight's FIRST Immunity Challenge. It is due in exactly 24 hours.

Background Information:

This challenge will have three distinct sections. The sections can be completed in any order your tribe chooses. See what each section is asking for, before deciding what section to do first. One section will be timed (in the sense that the sooner you submit things in, the more points your tribe will get). Two other sections will give you the full 24-hours so plan accordingly and don't panic.
The first section of this challenge is all about testing your vocal and organizational skills, as a tribe. All tribes will be given two songs to work with: 'Madonna - Like a Virgin' (only because it would kill me to see some of you sing it) and 'Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive' (which is quite approipriate for this game and at the same time, a hilarious selection). Everyone better have a working mircrophone for this section or something that can take sound input as you will be fragmenting each song into pieces and singing it in a cycle. The more pieces you decide to fragment the songs into, the more points you will earn,  provided everything is edited together (using a video editing program) in a organized and smoothly-flowing fashion.

In the second section of this challenge, you will be constructing a brand-new torch for this game, except this time ,there is a twist to this on-going traditional challenge (that has made its' appearance in every game from 1.0 - 4.0).

In the third and final section of this challenge, you will submit a 2-3 second video clip of yourself for the 'Survivor Webcam 5.0 Intro Video' (opening credits). This section will be timed so the sooner you submit your videos to me, the more points your tribe will earn. Of cose, the more you sit on this section, the more points you will lose (each and every hour).

Now, here are your instructions. Follow these carefully and to the tee.

Section One Instructions: 'A Musical Mosaic'

In this section you will create a music video, but not the kind you are thinking. This video will be the collaborative singing effort of everyone in your tribe.

You will take two songs:

Madonna - 'Like a Virgin' and Gloria Gaynor - 'I Will Survive'

(ORIGINAL VERSIONS, not REMIXES of ANY SORT)

Your tribe will take the songs (lyrics will be helpful) and fragment them into several parts. Each fragment MUST be sung by a different person in the tribe (meaning no back-to-back fragments can be sung by the same person). This means you will create a cycle, an order in which each of you will sing. Once all four of you have each sung a fragment, you will cycle back to the first person and go on in the same order. You will repeat this cycle until the song ends.

But, there's a Twist - I will not be telling your tribe how many fragment the song must have, nor will I be specifying how long each fragment must be. There is however a minimum - each fragment must have at least two words from the song. So in theory, your tribe could cut the song up into 100 pieces and each of you would sing 25 fragments of the song.

Ex. REM "Losing my Religion"

Person #1: "That's me in the corner..."
Person #2: " that's me in the spotlight..."
Person #3: "I'm losing my religion..."
Person #4: "Trying to..."

After Person #4, the cycle would then go back to Person #1 and you'd start over again. etc. etc. etc.

And, there's another Twist: You must dance (in or out of your chair) while you sing in every single fragment. However, you define dancing do it, as long as you're "in motion." You must also do your best to be in tune (I would find it hard to believe if none of you knew how these songs go).

Once you have all the fragments: Someone in the tribe will have to splice everything together in a movie editing program (ie. Window's Movie Maker). Once all pieces are spliced together and in the right order, you will have the option of adding the music in the background (on very low volume) or not. It would even be advantagous to have the Karaoke versions of both songs.

How will you be evaluated: The more you fragment your song (and successfully splice together), the more points your tribe will earn. Each fragment in the correct order is worth 100 points.

Possible Penalty: For every person in the tribe that does not participate in this section (for whatever reason - no mic, etc.), your tribe will lose a quarter (25%) of its' points from this section. If you're desperate, and don't want to lose valuable points, you can get uber-cheap microphones from Wal-Mart or any discount store.

Ex. If you take 'Like a Virgin' and fragment it into 60 parts, you'd get 6000 points for just that video, provided everything was in order, with all requirements met (like dancing or staying in motion).

You will create two separate videos for each song and if you want maximum points, you will have to do both songs. But, it's up to your tribe (remember, immunity is at stake).

Acceptable Video Formats: .WMV, .MP4, .MPEG, .AVI, .MOV, .RM

Label your videos as: YourTribeNameMadonna.WMV and YourTribeNameGloria.WMV (or whatever format it is in)

(plase refer to the GAME RULES in your tribal forum when exporting from Window's Movie Maker 2 ONLY - there's a certain codec you must use in order for me to see your videos)

Submit both your videos to my IM screen name (I will have 'auto-accept files' turned on if I am not at my desk).

Section Two Instructions: 'Creating a Torch'

Now, you're probably assuming that you'll be making a torch, taking a few pictures and submitting them, right?

WRONG!

For this upgraded version of a traditional Survivor Webcam Challenge, you will create a torch on video! You will have exactly three minutes to take as many raw materials as you've got handy and put them together to create something artistically resembling a torch.

No two items can already be assembled before you put the torch together.

EACH ITEM MUST BE UNIQUE

On your webcam, hit record. In order for each item to count, you will have to hold it up to the camera BEFORE you add it to your torch. Once you start assembling your torch I will begin timing you. Everything MUST be in view of the camera and you may not assemble anything off camera.
When three minutes is up, hold your torch up to the camera, in its' entirety.

You will be evaluated based on how many items you get assembled within the three minutes.
Evaluation: Each item successfully added within the three minutes will be worth 50 points.
You may now submit your video.

Acceptable Video Formats: .WMV, .MP4, .MPEG, .AVI, .MOV, .RM

Label your videos as: YourNameTorch.WMV (or whatever format it is in)

(plase refer to the GAME RULES in your tribal forum when exporting from Window's Movie Maker 2 ONLY - there's a certain codec you must use in order for me to see your videos)

Submit your video to my IM screen name (I will have 'auto-accept files' turned on if I am not at my desk).

Section Three Instructions: 'Your Survivor Intro Video'

For Survivor Webcam 5.0, yet another uber-cool intro video will be made (very similar to the intro video made for Survivor webcam 4.0).

In order for this video to be successful, I have decided to incorporate it into your first challenge.
The only thing you have to do is pose or do something for 5-seconds. Of those 5-seconds, only 1.5 - 2 will be used for the intro video.

Please be creative when doing your action pose - don't just sit there or I won't accept it!

Your intro video clip MUST be in .AVI or .MPEG format ONLY. No other format is acceptable. Submit videos to me on AIM - If I'm not around I will have 'auto-accept files' turned on.

This section is timed in the sense that you will be deducted 10 points for every hour that passes:
You will start with 240 points in the first hour (or, 11pm-12am EST). for every hour that passes, your tribe will lose 10 points. If you submit a video in the last hour, you will get 10 points only.

In theory, if everyone in your tribe submits an intro video in the first hour, you could get as many as 960 points!

This concludes the First Immunity Challenge...

And now, for the first time in Survivor Webcam 5.0...

IMMUNITY IS NOW UP FOR GRABS!
